I got lucky being a beginning farmer on Whidbey Island starting in 1999 and got to know several people farming land their families had farmed for generations. This image is taken from the property of one of those farmers, looking at the house of another. The poignant thing about this picture is what is missing. This farm had a huge barn that burned down in 2017 and forever changed the landscape of the prairie.
What is so lovely about this area is the many ways that light changes and plays with the Olympic Mountains across Admiralty Inlet, and, of course, the clouds and sky is always moving. This image was edited to take out some power lines.
